Simple Chop Suey Recipe

I head chop suey is not really Chinese but Americanized Chinese stir fried vegetables. My version is a simple and not so many ingredients as one would claim to be original chop suey. Especially with lockdown and quarantine, you only get as much as you have in your fridge and this time, I got the things I need to make a really simple version of chop suey. Let's get cooking.

Ingredients

  • Chicken breast, about 100 grams
  • Onion, bell pepper, garlic
  • Beans
  • Sayote, about a quarter of a medium size
  • Half carrot
  • Potato
  • Beef cube, only got beef cube this time :)
  • Cabbage, a quarter

Procedure

Heat oil in pan. Add in garlic, onion and bell pepper. Next, chicken and broth cube in, and add a small amount of water for them to mix when boiled. Cover pan until chicken is cooked. Add in beans. Beans should take 4 minutes to cook. 3 if you like but I kind of don't like the smell of beans when not properly cooked. Now add the sayote, carrots and potatoes with seasoning, pour in a cup of water and let it boil. This should take just 3 minutes. Lastly add in cabbage with sauce.

To make the sauce sticky, just mix water and cornstarch with soy sauce. Also add in sesame oil to add more aroma.

Bon ap, enjoy! Don't forget your tea :)
