Meat Balls Recipe (Bola-bola)

This a most common Filipino meat balls. It's like other meat balls, except it resembles a pan cake by adding breadcrumb and cornstarch. Some would add flour instead of cornstarch but I like the crispness with cornstarch, so here goes. One important technique here is to add oil into the meat balls. This adds an opportunity for the heat to enter the insides of the meat balls and property cook it.

Ingredients

  • Carrot, minced
  • Onion & garlic, minced
  • Spring onion
  • Egg
  • Cornstarch
  • Breadcrumb
  • Salt, pepper & seasoning

Procedure

Just simply combine all the ingredients and mix well. Add salt, black pepper and seasoning. To better cook the meat, add a little bit of oil. So when heated, the oil will cook the inside of the meat balls. Mix well and make a round-shape balls. Heat oil in the pan. And dump the balls in. One side should take about 2 minutes to cook. I usually turn them about 4 times like four sides in a cube. That way, all part of the meat balls are cooked properly. When all is golden brown, take a last round of four turns for a minute or so each turn. Adjust the heat appropriately, oil tends to rise the heat rapidly. Just make sure, it doesn't burn the meat balls.

Sauce. Just a simple sweet chili sauce mix with mayonnaise will do. Serve with rice. Enjoy!
